A new EU website has launched designed to help the hospitality industry become more sustainable. Take a Green Step contains best practices and case-studies, as well as ready-made tools such as a checklist for cleaning staff, pictograms for menus, sample templates for towel and linen cards, and several tips to help restaurants and hotels become more sustainable.
The website also contains practical articles on topics such as becoming a Zero Waste hotel, reducing water use, and using sustainability to boost employee retention. Hotel Case Studies include Martin’s, the Belgian hotel whose circular economy focus was profiled in Travindy here.
Take a Green Step has been produced by the European Commission’s Directorate General for the Environment, supported by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, with content based on the Best Environmental Management Practices (BEMPs) for the Tourism sector developed in the framework of the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
