Meliá Hotels International has announced plans to take part in a Spanish governmental project which aims to transform and recover the travel industry. Part of the project will be the creation of a prototype for carbon-neutral hotels. The company hopes that European recovery funds will be used to support the project.
Despite COVID-19, the Sustainable Tourism Awards by Skal International, received 44 entries from 23 countries. The winners were independently evaluated on leadership criteria in sustainability, encompassing tangible and measurable benefits to the environment, to society and to the communities in which they operate.
