Tourism will not survive without becoming environmentally sustainable and including a “fair carbon price” in the cost of travel, according to Travel Foundation climate specialist Jeremy Smith.
The Sustainable Hospitality Alliance has updated its renowned Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HCMI) and is calling on the hospitality industry, including corporate clients and booking platforms, to use common measurement metrics to ensure a transparent and globally comparable approach to carbon, water and waste reporting.
Protected areas play a key role in the sequestration and storage of carbon from the atmosphere into ecosystems and provide refuges for threatened species and are recognized as nature-based solutions to climate change adaption and mitigation.
