The Canadian organisation Village Monde has launched a new collaborative platform for online booking, VAOLO, which looks to promote sustainable tourism initiatives worldwide. VAOLO is a collaborative platform that directly connects remote and rural accommodations certified by Village Monde for their positive impacts, with a worldwide network of travelers looking for new and authentic destinations. This way, VAOLO aims to make it possible to reserve trips in those communities without a middle man, while the money spent in those destinations helps the host communities to improve their quality of life.
Village Monde describes VAOLO as being like an AirBnB for responsible tourism. It aims to list around 4000 sustainable accommodations before 2020. At its launch on November 16th, the platform already featured 200 accommodations in 30 different countries. It is available in French, English and Spanish.
Village Monde is an international philanthropic organization for social innovation from Quebec City, founded by tech entreprenur Charles Mony. Through its various activities and its new technological platform, Village Monde looks to connect communities located away from usual tourist routes, while supporting the creation and improvement of sustainable tourism initiatives around the world.
