After two years of online conferences, Green Destinations will celebrate their annual flagship event in person again and looks forward to welcoming you to this inspiring event.
Like previous ‘Global Green Destinations Days’, the event will connect sustainability professionals, destinations, and tourism boards through good practices to support peer-to-peer learning and discover initiatives, practical tools, and solutions for sustainable tourism destinations.
This year’s conference will take place from 26 to 29 September 2022 and will be hosted by the City of Athens at the Radisson Blu Park Hotel in Athens. The event allows us to unite in a unique setting and discuss ways toward a responsible future for tourism. We are excited to explore this iconic destination with you through several field trip options after the conference on 30 September and 1 October 2022. Here’s what to expect:
🗓️ 26 September 2022 | Day 0: GD Partners Day (GD Partners and Reps only)
The pre-conference meeting is dedicated to Green Destinations partners and representatives and is intended to give them the opportunity to discuss current topics and plans. A half-day session is planned for this purpose. During the afternoon, optional city tours will be available for the general public.
🗓️ 27 September 2022 | Day 1: World Tourism Day Conference
The opening ceremony and session will feature several keynote speakers. After the ceremony, groups will be formed to discuss national and international issues. Following that, the winners of the 2022 Top 100 Competition will be unveiled. The evening program will offer the opportunity to attend the Green Destinations Gala Dinner. The Green Destinations and QualityCoast Awards and Certification ceremony will also take place during the dinner.
🗓️ 28 September 2022 | Day 2: Sustainable Tourism Stories
A wide range of topics will be discussed, from governance, management, marketing, and environmental projects to community development. This day is a chance to nurture peer-to-peer learning, discuss synergies, and find a way forward for tourism. During the last part of the day, optional city tours will offer another excellent opportunity to get to know Athens.
🗓️ 29 September 2022 | Day 3: Future of Tourism Summit
Integrating the Future of Tourism Coalition with their full-day summit will provide an opportunity to bring together destinations, communities, and the travel industry towards climate resilience and climate action. This day will focus on destinations’ central role in meeting the goals of the Glasgow Declaration for Climate Action in Tourism. We will explore together the ways to make positive progress towards hitting Net Zero targets through decisive and collaborative action at the destination level.
🗓️ 30 September & 1 October 2022 | Day 4 & 5: Field Trips Athens
Optional tailor-made field trips will offer further opportunities for the delegates to explore the culture and nature around Athens and to discover ways and examples of sustainable practices toward a responsible future.
