While tourism is on pause, there has been much discussion about how we can improve the sector from an environmental and overcrowding standpoint. But we also need to improve it for local people by respecting them and their culture and ensuring they have equal access to the infrastructure and economic opportunities that tourism can bring.
ISTO's working group on accessible tourism wishes to meet regularly and invites other members to join. Their current priority is to identify and share specific health measures that have been adopted in various countries and regions for people with disabilities.
The 2nd edition of the World Summit Destinations for All will take place in Brussels, in October 2018. The aim is to give concrete expression to the UNWTO Recommendations on Accessible Tourism.
