However, argues\u00a0Alan AtKisson,\u00a0President &amp; CEO of\u00a0AtKisson Group in a post on Greenbiz that resonates for all of tourism, &#8220;the outdoor industry could, and should, be doing a lot more.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While the\u00a0outdoor industry&#8217;s business is selling the necessary products for enjoying such pursuits, its strategy should be\u00a0&#8220;get people to fall in love with the natural world.&#8221; Trouble is, adds AtKisson, &#8220;the health of that self-same natural world is under serious threat from climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution and poverty.&#8221; This results in\u00a0less \u201cnatural world\u201d for people to fall in love\u00a0with, which is bad for the outdoor industry.<\/p>\n<h6>In Brief<\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>The industry should set higher goals:\u00a0&#8220;The whole outdoor sector could be a sustainability pioneer and leader, not just a few star companies. (Think about the impact that an industry-wide commitment to sustainability could make.)<\/li>\n<li>It should get more involved: The outdoor sector should make more effort to connect with organisations pursuing the same goals. &#8220;This would be especially timely, considering how the new U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be calling on these companies, and everyone else, to really raise the bar on partnership and engagement.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>It should be more communicative:\u00a0Setting high sustainability goals, and talking about what they are doing to reach those goals, can add some \u201coomph\u201d while synergizing beautifully with \u201cnormal\u201d marketing messages \u2014 and helping these companies differentiate and stick out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWant to save the planet?
