Funded by Chinese\u00a0state-owned China Road and Bridge Corporation, the railway\u00a0will connect the capital city of\u00a0Nairobi with the popular coastal tourist city of Mombasa.\u00a0In response to the announcement, conservationist Richard Leakey, who is board chairman of the Kenyan Wildlife Service said \u201cIdeally, there should be no transportation in a national park.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leakey, however, admitted that despite his objections, he felt it may still be necessary:\u00a0\u201cWe cannot say to the people of Kenya \u2018Oh the railway can\u2019t come through Nairobi Park so you won\u2019t have a railway for five years.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<h6>In Brief<\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>The rail line will cross the park over a series of kilometre long\u00a0bridges\u00a0that\u00a0provide an underpass for\u00a0animals below.<\/li>\n<li>Kenya Wildlife Service is negotiating to obtain funds from Kenya Railways (which will save money by sending the railway through the park rather than human settlements), which it says will be invested in a &#8220;transparent Wildlife Endowment Fund where only interest earned could be spent.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>However,\u00a0 an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessdailyafrica.com\/New-rail-route-into-Nairobi-park-to-cut-compensation-bill\/-\/539546\/2735502\/-\/item\/0\/-\/6sk3lfz\/-\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">environmental assessment of the project<\/a> reported in May that: \u201cThe proposed realignment of the [railway] within the Nairobi National Park is likely to lead to increased
