Simon believes every trip you take has a direct impact on the area, the conservation efforts and the people that you meet. From this experience he draws a line in the following interview with <em>Peter Prokosch<\/em> to the mission of Linking Tourism &amp; Conservation:<\/p>\n<div class=\"esc-content-textmedia\">\n<p><strong>Simon, you just joined LT&amp;C as a new member. What made you interested in our<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>organization?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Showcasing key examples of tourism and conservation success stories is a tangible way to\u00a0demonstrate how tourism enterprise and development have a positive alternative form of land use\u00a0in general. Not only land use, but social impact of communities is a critical point which needs\u00a0careful consideration in nature conservation going forward. LT&amp;C is bringing likeminded people\u00a0from a variety of sectors together and creating opportunities to network, learn and engage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7307\" src=\"https:\/\/travindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Screen-Shot-2017-12-07-at-17.19.18.png\" alt=\"What if you could make Europe a wilder place by going on a holiday? - Interview with Simon Collier\" width=\"1104\" height=\"720\" \/>What has European Safari Company in common with LT&amp;C and what could we learn from\u00a0your experience?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a new style tourism and conservation organisation we aim to demonstrate some critical<br \/>\nexamples of direct impact of tourism \u2013 for the better! Conservation needs a business model and\u00a0tourism has a significant role to play in this but this needs to have a dual impact \u2013 for people &amp; nature. The European landscape has scattered rural communities, abandon lands and untapped\u00a0nature; the ESC is bringing all of these into single experiences and highlighting direct social\u00a0benefits, economic support and driving local conservation agendas.\u00a0As a key lesson, accepting that conservation needs an economic model attached to it that isn\u2019t\u00a0dependant on governmental or NGO support.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LT&amp;C is profiling cases (\u201cLT&amp;C-Examples\u201d), where tourism is supporting the establishment<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>or development of protected areas. Real impact LT&amp;C achieves, if such good examples are\u00a0growing. What are your ideas for creating\u00a0incentives\u00a0that LT&amp;C-Examples are getting\u00a0learned from and replicated?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7309 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/travindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Screen-Shot-2017-12-07-at-17.53.25.png\" alt=\"What if you could make Europe a wilder place by going on a holiday? - Interview with Simon Collier\" width=\"376\" height=\"263\" \/>Working models or examples of tourism \/ conservation success is only the opening conversation to\u00a0get people to entertain the notion of a working conservation model or alternative low impact land\u00a0use model. As brutal as it sounds, changing mind-sets is normally very difficult unless you impact\u00a0people\u2019s pockets \u2013 leading examples and \u2018early adopter\u2019 incentives can help get the ball rolling.\u00a0Furthermore, market place support, training and assisted development is not only essential to the\u00a0process but will also set the standards.\u00a0At the end of the day, we need local communities to not only see the benefit of nature but also\u00a0benefit from it, and therefore become the long term custodians and business partners with nature \/\u00a0nature protection.\u00a0Nature based businesses have a greater impact on local economics than direct support, as each\u00a0guest can have impact on several low level businesses in the area\u2026the local cheese farm, honey\u00a0producer or even the corner grocer. What is key, is creating a brand value attached to this support\u00a0and forging relationships which are all tied to conservation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you have any thoughts for the future perspectives and development of LT&amp;C?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LT&amp;C Penguins are essential as they allow a formidable unified base across the boundaries of the\u00a0world, its policies and cultural differences \u2013 but they need to access their own networks to allow for\u00a0more efficient growth of the initiative, scalability is key at this point.<br \/>\nEngaging the traveling public will help grow the value of the LT&amp;C brand \u2013 where travellers can\u00a0select destinations or offerings on the basis of their sustainability, conservation ethic and impact\u00a0model.<\/p>\n<p>LT&amp;C could become the hour glass model \u2013 being the key point in the middle between the<br \/>\nnetworks of conservation minded organisations and the available traveling public looking to make a\u00a0difference.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s a great initiative with huge potential \u2013 keep it up!!<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7310 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/travindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Screen-Shot-2017-12-07-at-17.54.03.png\" alt=\"What if you could make Europe a wilder place by going on a holiday? - Interview with Simon Collier\" width=\"1352\" height=\"912\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Safari Company supports and connects locally based partners with unique experiences to the traveler.
