Because the United Nations named 2017 the <a href=\"http:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=&amp;msgid=0&amp;act=111111&amp;c=223076&amp;destination=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tourism4development2017.org%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development<\/a>, we modeled this year\u2019s content on the five \u201cpillars\u201d the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) created for the international year. Those pillars, or ways in which sustainable tourism facilitates a destination\u2019s development, are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inclusive and sustainable economic growth<\/li>\n<li>Social inclusiveness, employment, and poverty reduction<\/li>\n<li>Resource efficiency, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation and mitigation<\/li>\n<li>Cultural values, diversity, and heritage<\/li>\n<li>Mutual understanding, peace, and security<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/responsibletravel.org\/docs\/The%20Case%20for%20Responsible%20Travel%202017_Final%20for%20Release.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trends &amp; Statistics<\/a>\u201d approaches these challenges one UNWTO pillar, or key sustainable development tool, at a time. And it does so via four sub-categories: what the experts say about the tool, followed by how consumers, businesses, and destinations themselves make use of it.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Download\u00a0<a
