Originarios de Gobi en Mongolia, sus tribus se desplazaron a Myanmar, antigua Birmania. A consecuencia del conflicto militar que asol\u00f3 este pa\u00eds a finales de los a\u00f1os 80, miles de personas se desplazaron huyendo de la guerra hacia Tailandia. Dentro del grupo de desplazados del conflicto birmano, se encontraban los Kayan.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando te conviertes en refugiado en otro pa\u00eds, una de tus pocas salidas es la mendicidad. As\u00ed acabaron muchas Padaung, cuyos cuellos recubiertos con aros atrajeron la atenci\u00f3n de los pocos turistas que entonces viajan por el sudeste asi\u00e1tico. A cambio de una foto, recib\u00edan unas monedas. Eso pas\u00f3 a principios de los a\u00f1os 90. As\u00ed naci\u00f3 la leyenda de las Mujeres Jirafa y su condena.<\/p>\n<p>El primer anillo de lat\u00f3n o cobre se lo colocan a las ni\u00f1as a la edad de cinco a\u00f1os y a partir de ese momento van a\u00f1adiendo aros hasta que el cuello no alcance para ninguno mas. Hay mujeres que han llegado a tener hasta 30 collares, cargando varios kilos de peso sobre sus cervicales. A partir de ese momento no podr\u00e1n quitarse los anillos. Vivir\u00e1n con ellos puestos cuando se laven, mientras duermen e incluso cuando vayan a dar a luz a una ni\u00f1a Padaung.<\/p>\n<p>La explotaci\u00f3n de las Mujeres Jirafa es un lucrativo negocio que hace ricos a unos pocos y condena a las Paduang. Preservar o acabar con esta forma de esclavitud depende de la decisi\u00f3n que tomemos como turistas.\u00a0El d\u00eda que no haya turistas visitando los poblados, cerrar\u00e1n sus puertas y las
