This may well be because the carbon labels fail to communicate.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0959652614008907\" rel=\"nofollow\">Research from Stefan G\u00f6ssling and Ralf Buckley<\/a>\u00a0shows that carbon labels suffer from shortcomings in the presentation of information, and explain how such shortcomings can be overcome.<\/p>\n<p>Results indicate that even if tourists care about their climate change impacts, carbon labels are currently ineffective because of deficiencies in communications.<\/p>\n<p>Labels do not provide information that individuals can understand. Factual knowledge is primarily kg CO2 or CO2-e, per person or per unit distance\/ consumption, with rankings and colour-coded infographics. Fewer labels provide information to compare performance against similar products, and even fewer explain the effectiveness of the saving, i.e. the actual savings or impact avoided.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/273855133_Carbon_labels_in_tourism_Persuasive_communication\" rel=\"nofollow\">Read the\u00a0full article here.<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"entry-title\">2: Coral reefs facing warming waters, increased bleaching<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.travindy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/PHOTO-Jarvis-bleaching-06172016-Cohen-Lab-WHOI-1120x534-landscape.jpg\" alt=\"Travindy&#039;s top stories of the year. #2: tourism and climate change\" width=\"1120\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">A<\/span> new NOAA outlook shows that many coral reefs across around the world will likely be exposed to higher-than-normal sea temperatures for an unprecedented third year in a row, leading to increased bleaching \u2013 and with no signs of stopping.<\/p>\n<p>This third global coral bleaching event began in mid-2014 is ongoing. Global warming, coupled with an intense El Nino, continues to make this the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/el-ni%C3%B1o-prolongs-longest-global-coral-bleaching-event\" rel=\"nofollow\">longest<\/a> and most widespread coral bleaching event on record. Since its onset, all U.S. coral reefs have seen above normal temperatures and more than 70 percent of them have been exposed to the prolonged high temperatures that can cause bleaching. In 2007, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\">Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change<\/a>\u00a0(IPCC)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/publications_and_data\/publications_ipcc_fourth_assessment_report_synthesis_report.htm\">fourth assessment report<\/a>, erroneously reported that Himalayan glaciers could disappear as early as 2035.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thethirdpole.net\/2015\/05\/27\/almost-all-everest-glaciers-may-disappear-by-end-of-century\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">new research<\/a>\u00a0published by the\u00a0<em>European Geosciences Union<\/em>(EGU) journal last year, showed that the 99% of glaciers on the Mount Everest region will disappear by the end of the century.<\/p>\n<p>Older members of the Sherpa community have been advocating climate action for some time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClimbing Everest has been harder because of unpredictability of weather and melting of ice.
