R<\/span>ecientemente Anna Pollock, la fundadora de la organizaci\u00f3n Conscious Travel, escribi\u00f3 un art\u00edculo titulado ‘Abramos un debate prudente sobre el crecimiento del turismo’ (versi\u00f3n original en ingl\u00e9s:\u00a0‘Towards opening a sensible debate on tourism growth<\/a>‘), en el que ped\u00eda a la industria iniciar un debate ‘honesto, riguroso, sin miedo y autocr\u00edtico’ sobre su propio modelo de negocio, un modelo basado en la idea de que la industria simplemente siga creciendo.<\/p>\n

El art\u00edculo de Anna fue en s\u00ed mismo una respuesta a un art\u00edculo escrito anteriormente por nuestro editor\u00a0Jeremy Smith para el blog de WTM<\/a>. En este art\u00edculo Jeremy tambi\u00e9n\u00a0ped\u00eda abrir un debate, expresando su preocupaci\u00f3n por el hecho de que mientras comunidades locales, desde Bali a Barcelona, est\u00e9n pidiendo a gritos que se establezcan l\u00edmites a los flujos tur\u00edsticos para proteger la identidad de los lugares donde viven, la industria tur\u00edstica contin\u00faa batiendo r\u00e9cords de crecimiento como objetivo principal.<\/p>\n

Como Anna expres\u00f3 en su art\u00edculo, “nos llevamos haciendo\u00a0esta pregunta durante muchos a\u00f1os, pero de alguna manera hemos sido incapaces de poner en marcha un debate en toda la industria”.
