\"World<\/a>This week World Animal Protection (WAP) launched a petition<\/a> claiming TripAdvisor actively promotes and profits from some of the cruellest wildlife tourist attractions and calling on the review site to stop listing them. WAP cites 2015 research by\u00a0the University of Oxford that reviewed 188 wildlife\u00a0venues featured on TripAdvisor\u00a0and found that 75%\u00a0of the different types of attractions\u00a0involve wildlife\u00a0cruelty.<\/p>\n

According to WAP, TripAdvisor has told it that:\u00a0\u201cThe fact that a property, establishment or business may be listed on TripAdvisor does not represent our endorsement of that establishment.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, WAP claims that Tripadvisor’s algorithms “can lead to even the cruellest wildlife venues being ranked highly in their Popularity Index, or even receive a \u2018Certificate of Excellence\u2019.”<\/p>\n

WAP has called on Tripadvisor to create a\u00a0WildlifeLeaders programme (echoing its hugely successful Greenleaders programme) \u00a0where TripAdvisor rewards and promotes genuinely humane wildlife experiences.<\/p>\n
